I've just added a basic search option for the help pages. Just click "Help" in the upper right to see it. After searching you'll have options to restrict your search to just Help Forums, Submission Guidelines, or Marketplace Documentation.

Hopefully this will make the Help section more useful for everyone! Jooles wrote:
Is this working yet?

I've tried using it with keywords such as "Submission", "release", "refresh" and it's returning zero results all the time. nik wrote:
This is working fine for me Jooles - auto-converted long url - on Firefox and IE ;-)

It wasn't working at all when he posted this, I checked. It's been fixed now. I'm confused as to how you get that link, you seem to be missing part of the code. &btn=Search Drama_Ft._Justified edited this message about 1 month ago. nik wrote:

auto-converted long url auto-converted long url etc. The links you have given seem to be missing the "&btn=Search" bit, that is why it isn't working I think. Is there a specific page that is causing that, or is it happening on all the pages? md wrote:

- going to this URL via the help link in the top right of the screen: http://www.discogs.com/help - putting a word into the search field - enter the URLs I posted and "No results" are what follows. md edited this message about 1 month ago. md wrote:
I've worked out where the bug is.

If you click the Search button, it works. If you hit enter in the text field it brings up an incorrect search result (or rather it doesn't search but provides a result, or it searches the wrong place and provides no result. md wrote:
This bug effects another function in the site too, it was raised on the forum recently but I forget right now what it related to.

mdThis bug effects another function in the site too, it was raised on the forum recently but I forget right now what it related to. I've noticed that happening at the captcha pages for Price History in the Marketplace. E.g.: http://www.discogs.com/sell/history/708843 If you type in the captcha text and then hit Enter on the keyboard (instead of clicking the Show button), it just refreshes the page without giving the price history. If you type the captcha text and then click the Show button, the price history is diaplayed fine. It would be great if hitting Enter could also act the same as hitting the Show button. md wrote:
Yep, I just remembered myself and just came here to post it and there you are ahead of me Jules.

It was a silly Internet Explorer bug. teo edited this message about 1 month ago. SmotheredHope wrote:
The easiest way to get things to work properly is most often by using Firefox. I will never get why people use IE - except for updating Windows. deejsasqui wrote:
OT: you can update Windows and render other pages with an IE display with IE Tab, a firefox add-on. I haven't tried it, but it sounds like a good work-around, as you can specify certain domains to use an IE Tab by default.

Now that I've been using this a bit, I've thought of a couple of suggestions to improve the Search feature:

1) After you do a Search from any of the Help pages, the search results page http://www.discogs.com/help/search?query=submission includes filtering options oAll Help oHelp Forums oSubmission Guidelines oMarketplace Docs. How about making those options available at all the Help pages too? 2) I can see that you've added the Search Help function to all the pages listed in the Help Menu on the left side, but how about also adding it (along with the filtering options) to the Help Forums main page http://www.discogs.com/help/forums 3) One more suggestion (unrelated to this topic, but related to easier browsing the Help section): How about making the Discogs Help text at the top of the left hand menu box a link back to the Main Help home page http://www.discogs.com/help ? That would give you the same 1-click-back-home browsing functionality that you already get with the breadcrumbs at the top of the Help Forums pages. nik wrote:

Jooles2) I can see that you've added the Search Help function to all the pages listed in the Help Menu on the left side, but how about also adding it (along with the filtering options) to the Help Forums main page http://www.discogs.com/help/forums It's possible, but it may end up overloaded as we have all the marketplace links as well in the MP forum. Jooles3) One more suggestion (unrelated to this topic, but related to easier browsing the Help section): How about making the Discogs Help text at the top of the left hand menu box a link back to the Main Help home page http://www.discogs.com/help ? This is certainly possible, I'll see if we can do that. Thanks! Reply to this topic? |
