SWV - The Remix EP - budnik Now this is what R and B should sound like. It's all about the Demolition mix here of "Right Here". The original remix by Teddy Riley is taken one step further, instead of using the backing to "Human Nature" the mix has also been fused with verses and chorus' from "Human Nature" too. Making it more of a duet if you like. The result is quite fantastic, and what should be a modern R and B classic. The tune anyway is superb, Teddy Riley made it better, and this Demolition mix takes it to the next level. Top stuff. |
Fucked Up - Dangerous Fumes - Punk303 This 7" single features two tracks one of which is exclusive to this release and bound to cause a little commotion over its lyrical contents. Without getting into too many details, the song tackles one of society’s biggest taboos in that ‘fucked up’ kinda of way. Actually, it really doesn’t ‘tackle’ the subject at all but does definitely bring attention to it without taking a clear stand on the issue. "Dangerous Fumes" continues where their "Litany" 7" ep left off - killer hardcore punk |

Dynamix II - Machine Language - BryGuy This disc (well... tape at the time) took me from being electronic fan to a fanatic -- and after all these years, it's still a great listen.
The album consists of tracks ranging from a very break / electro feel such as the title track Machine Language, II Evolve the Future, and Begin Bombing, rave anthem style Get Out of My Mind, and the bass filled Blue Beats.
Alone (Waiting in Limbo) deserves it's own mention; and to me, is worth tracking down this release for. What a beautiful track. |
SWV - Right Here (Human Nature Mix) - Faderz A Very important and funny thing about "Right Here" is that Pharell Williams is saying: The S the double the U, the W (SWV), Listen to the "U.K Back to The Black Mix" with a little feautering rap from him. Its then re-used and sampled in the Human Nature Mix version. It is one of the first times Pharell back in the early 90s. This RnB track is one of my alltime classics when i play DJ gigs. |
DWFS - Higher Consciousness - delirium303 This Freddy Fresh cd is a bit specal: Nowhere on the inserts you can find the name of the artist, only on the inlaycard is written the name of the producer, here: Freddy Schmid, but no DWFS. Only the intro track is titled "Intro DWFS" - it's the beginning- track of an journey into finest high quality analogue techno-trance and 2-3 harder tracks. Fred is a musician who knows how to build the sounds for a deep heart adventure trip. Wonderful tweeting 303 with strings typical for top undergound soul-techno tracks of this era. Paired with bold pounding sometimes resounding bassdrums and another tb 303-line we listen to this what Fred's studio and equipment stand for (check the Freddy Fresh pics/Discogs). Raver and deep techno-lover all over the world speak this language in which Freddy make this music - this is one of the cds I have absolutely no regrets. The cd starts with 'Afterlife', it's the second track after a short intro, a murmuring-beat hihat jet maelstrom. It follows 'Analog Heaven', also a hi-speed hard-acid track DJ Edge would have fun with it, both more harder 303-tracks are the strong intro part of the cd which tie in with the last tracks of the cd which are harder too. Inbetween you find sometimes groovy but hypnotic rythms again with dreamy strings underlined by piano sometimes. Track 10 is a dark 303 stamper, a voice says "Would you be mine again..." and the bassdrum gets in parts double-speed to make sure to get this answer... - one of my favorites, this track, no doubt. The next track 11 is a break, a wonderful trance chill to give you the chance to breathe deeply. Nearly every track is typical for the unique Freddy Fresh sound - if you need the 303 you get it and if you miss power then a monster bass sequence comes up from the underworld...
If you like more hardcore or harder stuff and you want to chill a bit in a hardcore way I would say this gives the feeling of hardcored deep-trance. Nearly all of the tracks could be taken from Fresh's releases on EXperimental Records in the first decade of the 90s: Even though the cd is released 1999 it has the same quality like the better productions of Schmid - it's a fact that a lot of artist lost their quality in making music and couldn't make underground hits like they did in the later years. Not so Freddy Fresh with this outstanding and very rare release. 5/5

Nathalie Page - This Is The Time - Magnetonium This track is one of my all-time favourites. Beautiful, catchy vocals accompanied by an addicting euro melody. Released during the golden Canadian eurodance era, which has been immortalized since. It inspired an entire generation, drawing people like me into the electronic music scene.
This track received plenty of airtime on the legendary but now defunct dance radio station called Energy 108, which broadcasted in the Toronto-Hamilton area. Ironically the radio station folded right at the time of the last great eurodance wave. This was the last song they played before folding in the spring of 1998. |
Appleblim And Peverelist - Soundboy's Ashes Get Hacked Up And Spat Out In Disgust EP - dogdream Man, does it get any better than this?! Appleblim and Perverelist need to work together more often, they've managed to perfectly wed dubstep and super-deep dubby techno into two tracks that outshine the individual output of both artists and reach well beyond the confines of the genres that make them up.
The atmosphere is ever present here, invoking mental images of huge wide open spaces, layered with perfectly sculpted bass throbs and massive echoes while maintaining a dark minimalistic sound throughout. With utmost attention having been paid to the smallest details, each echo seems to have been given its own lease on life, unique in character and personality, giving an almost organic feel the the tracks which run near 9 minutes apiece. While "Circling" on the A-side is somewhat faster and darker with an infectious danceable break underlying, "Over Here" on the flip slows it down a bit and evolves a 'Basic Channel'-esque sound with long drawn-out (and tripped-out) harmonic horn layers, the whole of which sounds almost orchestrated in its razor sharp and highly precise delivery. The smokers and home listeners out there will love it.
I think one of the things that stand out the most on this release is the sheer restraint involved, there's no impulse to floor you with insane over-layered bass or intense breaks right from the get-go and very little pandering to any genre specific sound. This love child stands on it's own: it is what it is and it's god-damned good at it. One of the top releases of the year in my books. |
